I recorded last night's Formula E Beijing race. I'm not really a Formula fan but I figured I'd watch for the novelty of it.
After sitting through an hour of crappy house music playing over the sound of RC cars driving around Beijing's Olympic Park, things finally started getting interesting in the final laps as Nicolas Prost tried to hold off Nick Heidfeld.
The two racers go into the final lap nose to tail and I'm actually getting excited to see the finish...

Always extend the end time of any live sporting event. Always.

Agreed.
Though, it is 2014, why can't we have DVR technology that automatically updates timing/schedules on the fly already?
Oh that's right, the Media Conglomerates are terrified of change because anything new might put them out of business.
Sigh...

In their defense, the schedule is preset, and anything that runs over will be considered a different program. Easy enough to make the default setting for sports programs to have an added 60 minutes (on Dish, at least).

I know, but it should be easy for the DVR to learn that a game/match/race/Gladiatorial Death Match has run over and it should keep recording said event.
